Why Songbird Kids?

Research supports the pervasive benefits of music education, reaching beyond making music to improvement in cognitive, physical, motor, linguistic, social, and emotional learning. I have witnessed first-hand, time and time again, that making music with their peers inspires confidence and creativity in young children and leads to greater cooperation and enhanced leadership capacity. While I am teaching them active music making, music listening, & music appreciating, they are learning so much more. At Songbird Kids, our play-based, interactive music education program is therefore integral to the formation of the whole child. And we have a whole lot of fun in the process!

About Rachel

Rachel, founder of Songbird Kids, received her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies (Early Childhood Education) from Texas A&M University in 2006. She also taught 4th grade in Richardson ISD, where she and her husband grew up.

Rachel draws on more than 30 years of a rich musical background in piano, violin, and vocal performance. She began singing at 3, playing the piano at 6, and fell in love with the violin at 8.  Known for her fun-loving and empathetic personality, Rachel's evidence-based teaching style embraces a play-centered approach that meets each child where they are through creative musical expression, rhythmic movement, play, & instrument exploration.

Rachel lives in Woodway with her husband Mike, their two children, and their dog. Mike is a lecturer at Baylor who works as a luthier on the side. Their kiddos are budding artists and performers in their own right. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys attending (and occasionally performing in) musicals,  hiking in the woods with their dog, listening to child development podcasts, and reading historical fiction novels.
