"I love Songbird Kids!" - Maggie, age 4
Prof. Lauren M. Weber, MFA, MM | Senior Lecturer | Baylor
“Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children’s education.” – Yo-Yo Ma
Children respond to music from their earliest days. Some even say your baby responds to music while they are still in the womb. Music enriches the development of young children in a profound way. Music enhances your child’s language development, fine and gross motor skills, as well as helps them to focus.
Songbird Kids brings music to young children. Rachel Whitenton introduces song, melody, and movement to children with a warm and engaging presence. I had the pleasure of seeing Rachel interact with children of all ages. Songbird Kids is a wonderful way to introduce music to you and your children.
When I first met Rachel Whitenton through her children, it was obvious that music was a big part of their family life! That’s why I reached out to her when I opened my home day care and was looking to add a musical enrichment activity to my curriculum. We were all happy when she was available to come to my home on a scheduled basis and hold a rhythm-based circle time.
Since Ms. Rachel started, the children all look forward to her visits and enjoy spending time with her. All of them are benefiting from their experiences in trying to keep rhythm using their instruments, bodies, and voices. It all goes much deeper than simply singing songs and is a real joy to witness!
Ms. Rachel is warm and friendly and always models grace and courtesies when interacting with children. Her rhythm sessions are both inviting and engaging. We all think she’s the bee’s knees at Cedar Rock Children’s House!
